Falcao’s injury: updates, controversies and details
We’ve already written about Falcao’s injury, that happened during a Coupe de France match that AS Monaco played in Lyon against an amateur team, Monts d’Or Azergues Foot (fourth tier); because of that Soner Ertek, the player that committed the foul, received several threats.
The unlucky Colombian broke his knee ligaments: this is a very serious injury that usually makes a footballer stop playing football for six months, and so could probably make Falcao miss 2014 World Cup. The accident happened on January 22, and six months will be over at the end of July, but the competition should start on June 12 and end on July 13. If the Colombian decided to risk and to accelerate his recovery, he could compete in Brazil, albeilt in a quite poor athletic condition.
Anyway Falcao told he believes in that, whereas he knows that his possibilities are very low: currently, after ending the first one, he has just started the second part of his recovery in Madrid, the city where he had played for few years. This period will be the decisive one to understand if the Colombian will be able to be fit in time, anyway his coach, Claudio Ranieri, stated that he believes that his striker will manage to play the World Cup.
You can show your support to Falcao on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #falcaovaalmundial..
Speaking about Claudio Ranieri, he has been strongly criticized by Monaco directors as well, because he had fielded Falcao against a very weak team, while the Italian manager blamed the referee, because he hadn’t showed enough yellow cards during the match, in order to calm down the amateurs, who probably were playing the most important game of their career.
Moreover it must be pointed out that, on the morning of the match, Emmanuel Rivière, an AS Monaco striker, should have left to London to sign for Fulham FC, but Claudio Ranieri delayed this transfer in order to have him available one more time for the Coupe de France match. Anyway the Italian finally left him on the bench, and made Falcao start: the Colombian scored the first goal, but, after he being injured, was replaced by Emmanuel Rivière, that added a brace, making the result 0-3.
The accident stopped the Frenchman’s transfer, so that AS Monaco didn’t recive €7M and had to sign the Bulgarian striker Dmitar Berbatov on loan from Fulham FC itself, in order to replace Falcao..
Finally we are going to give you few information about Monts d’Or Azergues Foot, the Soner Ertek’s club: since July 2013 the team has been captained by 37-year-old Ludovic Giuly, whose name has been previously given to the local stadium. He was born in that area, and has played for OL, FC Barcellona, AS Roma, PSG, FC Lorient and AS Monaco, with whom he had his best seasons, and has won several trophies at both national and international level.
Few days after being kicked out from Coupe de France, the club from Rhone-Alps announced the signings of two important names of French football: Yohan Gomez, a former OL and SC Bastia player, and, most of all, Sidney Govou, a former Panathinaikos, Évian Thonon Gaillard and, most of all, OL striker, who has collected so far 49 caps and 10 goalS with France.
Moreover the Coach is Stéphane Santini, whose father Jacques had been the Manager of French National Team.
