Fat Footballers: Cristian Gastón Fabbiani a.k.a. “El Ogro”
Dear Readers, today we’re going to speak about Cristian Gastón Fabbiani, an Argentinian striker that is 1.89 m and 104 kg, and because of that he’s nicknamed “El Ogro” (The Ork).
He started his carrer in Argentina playing for CA Lanús, a club from Buenos Aires, then he switched sevaral teams: Club Palestino (Chile, great Season on loan), CA Lanús again, Beitar Jerusalem (Israel, on loan) and CFR Cluj (Romania).
In Romania he had his best period during 2007/08 Season, scoring 10 goal on 28 appeareances and winning both Romanian Championship and Romanian Cup.
But anyway he came back to Argentina at the beginning of the following, and played “Apertura 2008” for CA Newell’s Old Boys, with whom he had a decent Season scoring 5 goals on 15 appeareances, and attracted the interest of CA River Plate, one of the two most supported clubs in Argentina, that bought him, making its supporters very happy.
The day he was introduced to the press, he wore a T-shirt where the words “for River’s sake” were written on it, and later he was dedicated a song, titled “La Banda del Ogro” (“The Band of the Ork”) by Javier Montes, an Argentinian songwriter, here you are the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrwGPmdKG94.
But his two Seasons at CA River Plate were quite disappointing, he increased his weight, but the number of matches that he played and his goal scoring average dropped significantly, and the press started criticizing him because of his weight, but he answered he was just a bit out of shape.
So in 2011 he was sold to CA All Boys, which, after another disappointing season, sold him to Independiente Rivadavia, where he currently “plays”, but actually his Club isn’t happy of his weight and Christian has often been on the bench or out of the First Squad.
According to rumors, he, who is 30 now, is thinking to end his professional career, but we hope that he will change his mind !
Here you are a video with some goals from “El Ogro”.
