Chad Smith (RHCP) wipes his butt with Flamengo Jersey
Chad Smith, member of the famous American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, created a “diplomatic accident” between himself and the supporters of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, the most supported football club in Brazil.
The drummer was in Belo Horizonte as main guest of a drum clinic, a contest where local rising musical groups can perform, and while he was on the stage, he was thrown a jersey of Flamengo by a fan.
The American musician thought to use that shirt like it were toilet paper, probably willing to gain the support of the attendance, thinking that they were mostly supporters of Atletico Miniero or of other clubs from Minais Gerais Federal State. And he was right, because the attendance mostly liked that, and just a little part of it, probably fans of Flamengo, whistled to RHCP‘s star.
Troubles for Chad Smith started as soon as he left the place, when the video spread on the web, and a lot of supporters of Flamengo from all over Brazil insulted and threatened him on the main social networks.
The musician, worried about possible bad consequences on the image of RHCP in Brazil, apoligized on Twitter: ” I want to apologize for my inappropriate antics at the drum clinic, my joke about team rivalries went too far. Flamenco fans…I’m sorry” and posted a picture of hiself wearing a Flamengo jersey among Flamengo fans.
Anyway in this message he made another little gaffe, he wrote “Flamenco”, the name of the famous Spanish dance, instead of “Flamengo”, the correct name of the team.
